The 84th Annual Academy Awards ( The Oscars 2012) were held on 26th February, 2012 at the Hollywood & Highland Center, California, USA. In total 24 Oscars were awarded, here we will list the top 10 most anticipated awards.
10. Best Documentary-Feature
was awarded to undefeated by TJ Martin, Dan Lindsay and Richard Middlemas.
Other nominees included in this category were Hell and Back Again by Danfung Dennis and Mike Lerner, If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front by Marshall Curry and Sam Cullman, Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory by Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky; and Pina by Wim Wenders and Gian-Piero Ringel.
9. Best Film Editing
was awarded to Angus Wall and Kirk Baxter for their work in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Other nominees included were Anne Sophie Bion and Michel Hazanavicius for The Artist, Kevin Tent for the Descendants, Thelma Schoonmaker for hugo and Christopher Tellefsen for Moneyball.
8. Best Visual Effects
was awarded to Hugo by Rob Legato, Joss Williams, Ben Grossmann, and Alex Henning.
Other Nominees included Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 by Tim Burke, David Vickery, Greg Butler, and John Richardson, Real Steel by Erik Nash, John Rosengrant, Danny Gordon Taylor and Swen Gillberg, Rise of the Planet of the Apes by Joe Letteri, Dan Lemmon, R. Christopher White and Daniel Barrett; and Transformers: Dark of the Moon by Scott Farrar, Scott Benza, Matthew E. Butler and John Frazier.
7. Best Animated Feature
was awarded to Rango of Gore Verbinski.
Other nominees included in this category were A Cat in Paris of Alain Gagnol and Jean-Loup Felicioli, Chico and Rita of Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal, and Kung Fu Panda 2 of Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Puss in Boots of Chris Miller.
6. Best Supporting Actress
was awarded to Octavia Spencer for her role in The Help as Minny Jackson.
Other nominees included in this category were Bérénice Bejo in The Artist as Peppy Miller, Jessica Chastain in The Help as Celia Foote, Melissa McCarthy – Bridesmaids as Megan Price and Janet McTeer in Albert Nobbs as Hubert Page.
5. Best Supporting Actor
was awarded to Christopher Plummer for his role in Beginners as Hal Fields.
Other nominees included in this category were Kenneth Branagh in My Week with Marilyn as Laurence Olivier, Jonah Hill in Moneyball as Peter Brand, Nick Nolte in Warrior as Paddy Conlon and Max von Sydow in Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close as The Renter.
4. Best actress
was won by Meryl Streep for her role in The Iron Lady as Margaret Thatcher.
Other nominees in this category were Glenn Close in Albert Nobbs as Albert Nobbs, Viola Davis in The Help as Aibileen Clark, Rooney Mara in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo as Lisbeth Salander and Michelle Williams in My Week with Marilyn as Marilyn Monroe.
3. Best actor
was awarded to Jean Dujardin for his role in The Artist as George Valentin.
Other nominees in this category were Demián Bichir in A Better Life as Carlos Galindo, George Clooney in The Descendants as Matt King, Gary Oldman in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy as George Smiley and Brad Pitt in Moneyball as Billy Beane.
2. Best director
was awarded to Michel Hazanavicius for directing a masterpiece i.e. The Artist.
